WHY PRACTICE SABBATH - TAKING 24 HOURS OFF FROM WORK?

First, a few thoughts on Sabbath:

Isaiah 58:13-14 "If you call the Sabbath a delight and the Lord's holy day honorable...then you will find you joy in the Lord."

Taking a full day to rest is not a new idea—it’s ancient, as old as humanity itself. It’s called Sabbath.

Across time and cultures, people have embraced this weekly rhythm of stopping, resting, delighting, and worshiping. But somewhere along the way, many of us—especially within the Christian tradition—have reduced Sabbath to just an hour at church on Sunday, losing the heart of what it was meant to be: a full day set apart to reconnect with God, with each other, and with what truly matters.

We’ve traded rest for productivity, presence for busyness. We all know in our "knower" that this isn’t sustainable. That’s why a growing movement is reclaiming Sabbath—not just as a law given but as a love gift from God.

We are part of that movement. A counter-cultural rhythm that restores our souls, grounds our lives, and protects us from burnout.

Observing Sabbath is not just about stopping work. It’s about coming back to life.

We see this as so important that we are making it a major focus in our ministry.

We open our home, invite guests to experience a Friday evening shared Sabbath meal.

Who you are is more than what you do - more than your work. For those who want to discover who they are outside of their work, Sabbath is the doorway for this kind of discovery.

We equip others to host Sabbath Table gatherings in their own homes, extending the gift of rest far beyond our own table.

"The Sabbath is not your reward for finished work, it is your rescue from unfinished work." Matt Canlis
