BABY GOATS - POLLY GRACE AND PEARL - 2023

Something is lost when kids don’t experience a lot of creative play, exploration, and movement from lots of time outside - in nature. It’s a good thing for kids to see how life works - by being outside, in nature, learning to take care of animals and discover how wonderful God’s creation is. Children miss out on something when they grow up behind a screen/device in the hand.

Most folks our age (late 60's) grew up outside. There was no such word as boredom. We explored, created, discovered, connected - unwittingly with God and each other. 

 Just after Polly Grace & Pearl were born (twin daughters from Evelyn), I invited two young folks - a brother and sister - ages almost 13 and almost 12 to join me (along with their Grandma) to learn about goats and interact with these two little baby goats.

It was there (in the goat yard - I call a monastery) that baby goats were held and conversation could be heard about the goodness and the grace of God and how he reveals himself through nature, through each other and through animals.

These two learned about the breed of goat, the gestation period, cud transfers, how to bottle feed a baby goat, how to recognize a sick goat, our farm’s management protocols…and just other general things about these beautiful animals.
