Hey Everybody - New FarmShop Hours - Thursday Mornings Only

Here's a new face for our farm's caramels. The cutest little red haired kiddo you'd ever want to meet. Boone. He's 6.5 and our youngest grandchild and he loves my caramels. A lot.

In case you didn't know, we have the most wonderful European style baker at the farm during Thursday mornings FarmShop. Picket Fence Pastries brings such a lovely variety of decadence and my weekly weakness are her almond croissants. We're also serving $3 cups of coffee and it's quite delightful to see folks begin to enjoy the garden ambeience.

We aren't providing a lot of seating space - so plan to come by 9 am to reserve a spot.

Spring Growing Season

It's been a lovely spring so far and we just finished our winter CSA/Farm Members share and are excited about what this next season holds. TOMATOES - and we're hoping for lots of beautiful heirloom tomatoes. Summer squash, peppers, peaches, figs, flowers, mint, eggplant, beets, radishes, lettuces, cucumbers and more. This season is always a lovely double dip here in the Phoenix Valley.  Get your spring recipes together now.

Are you interested in seeing how other small gardeners grow lots of food? My friend, Jill Green of Sweet Life Garden has just announced the Arcadia Edible Garden Tour again. It's so worth it to see how and what others doing. Click here for more info. The Date is Saturday, May 13th, 2017 from 8:00am – 1:00pm. Tickets go FAST!

Several times a year, Michael and I step back and evaluate how our farm and business is doing and think through some changes that we need to make. One of the changes has been to eliminate the Thursday afternoon FarmShop hours completely. That said, the Farm/ FarmShop is OPEN ONLY Thursday mornings from 9-11:30.  IF you need to place an order for our caramels and can't make it a Thursday morning, email me at hello@thesimplefarm.net and we can arrange a convientent time for you to stop by the farm and pick up.

Our farm's Friday Suppers are still happening and Michael and I LOVE getting to meet so many amazing people from all walks of life. We're so thankful for this collaboration with The Scottsdale Resort. All seem to be booked through May, however, CALL the resort the week of the next date and ask if there are any cancellations. More info is HERE. Also, there is a possibility that we will continue the suppers in the Fall again. If you're interested to be on the Fall wait list (and it's already filling up), then connect with the resort now.

Pizza Supper, Thursday FarmShop, Picket Fence Pastries & Coffee

Greetings everyone! Thought I'd give you an update on the farm's first Farm to Table Pizza Supper this past Friday night. Basically, it was awesome. All our guests gathered at the table after spending a bit of time greeting the baby goats, being loved on and taking pictures. There's nothing like a 2 week old baby goat!

Michael and I are soooooo thankful to Chef Rick of Kitchen West at The Scottsdale Resort. He donated his time and pizza ingredients for this first Pizza Supper which all proceeds went to help pay for these two wood fire ovens.

In short order he began putting under heat lamps the most wonderful, delightful, incredible pizza you'd ever want to enjoy. It was all magical. The evening was lovely, Our farm table was lovely (thanks to Nancy and Joyce for working hard to create the farm couture style) with all the fresh rosemary, just snipped lavender bundles, mint and marjoram to add color, texture and fragrance.

One of the things Michael and I enjoy the most is seeing those gathered around our tables enjoy good food and good conversation. We look forward to planning more of these Pizza Suppers.

Thursday FarmShop Open 9-11:30

This past Thursday, I think we must have had 250-300 folk stop by the farm. I know it was spring break, but maybe it was a combination of announcing the showing of our new baby goats AND that we serving Picket Fence Pastries and little cups of coffee again.

Laura Koch, of Picket Fence Pastries sold ALL she baked and brought to the farm by around 10:30. Everything she does is incredible and we are so happy she chose our farm to be at.

Pastries and Coffee

Some of you reading this blog post will remember how we served the coffee and pastries a few years ago. We took a sabbatical to figure out how/what we wanted this to look like again. And, with our new Gathering Garden on the east side of the FarmShop and with Laura joining us, it seemed perfect to add a few little bistro tables and serve up coffee again.

Cups of coffee are $3 each AND we have made a decision to serve coffee ONLY until 10:30 and/or when the pump pot is empty - coffee is done.

And, of course, I can't have a blog post update without a few baby goats. Micheal is holding Hazel's 3rd surprise, Beatrix. The sweetest baby ever. Well, they are all the sweetest babies ever.

Farm Update: Baby Goats, Gathering Garden, Pastries and Coffee on Thursday Mornings

Last weekend was a blurr. Well, really the whole week was. We had seven little babies born in two days. Ultra sounds showed six and when a seventh - a girl - flew out - I almost started singing opera.

And of course, our babies are hanging around during Thursday morning FarmShop. We are open from 9-11:30 and 4-5:30.

A month ago, I mentioned here that we were doing some garden/farmshop/ changes.  I'm calling this new space The Gathering Garden. The purpose is to be some inspiration for Growing, Cooking, Creating and Gathering. I hope you stop by Thursday morning to see what we have going on.

Instagram is a wonderful tool to connect with folks in the community you wouldn't have otherwise been able to know about. One such person is Laura Koch of Picket Fence Pastries. I saw images of her almond and chocolate croissants, mini bundts, ginger peach scones, lemon raspberry muffins (gluten free), Chocolate & Maple Buttercream cakes (to die for - I can't eat just one - well I can. . .but . . .), Maple, date, walnut crumb cakes, gluten free peanut butter cookies, oatmeal apricot sandwich cookies, Snicker doodle cake, lemon loaves, Cherry almond muffins, Cinnamon & Spice Sweet Potato bundt & Lemon bundts, Mexican Hot Cocoa bundts with a drizzle of white chocolate, Black fig w/a pistachio crumble and more.....

I just HAD to reach out to Laura to join us on Thursday mornings at the farm. . .and she has come. She will be at our farm Thursday mornings....all but the 3rd one of each month. And, THIS Thursday, French Press coffee will be served in The Gathering Garden.
