My Farm News - New Food Link

Years ago - like 15 or so - my blog consisted so much of home front things and cooking things and recipes.  When Michael and I converted our HOA backyard into a mini-farm - I added the slice of life that included "how to grow" kinds of things.

The other day while having our morning coffee - I told Michael that I realized I'm back around to what's in my heart - the home, food, the table, gathering around and cooking - which says to me "family" and "friends" and even those who are yet to become a friend.

Growing food and the table and community just seem to make sense to me.

My earliest memories of my mother are in the kitchen. Faithfully, she'd scoop me up and we'd cook dinner together. And, I need to say, my mother worked full time. She'd be up at 4:30 am every morning to get to work by 7 am and then return home close to 5 pm.  I rarely recollect her NOT preparing a meal for our family meal table. Now that I'm about to lose my mother to cancer - those memories in the kitchen - everyone of them - are more than precious.

It feels really good to swing back around to the value of the meal table. Not that I'd left it - but to bring it central to the life and purpose of The Simple Farm. If we grow and don't cook and don't gather around - then I think we perhaps we have a misdirected purpose.

As you know - we operate a small CSA. This past season 30 people who love to cook and who value good food - became members.  We've enjoyed this CSA experience - not just because of choosing what we harvest - which in a sense we're choosing much of what our members will be cooking and serving during the week - BUT - more so - because of the relationships we have been blessed to develop and even more than that - watching the members connect with each other and share what they're preparing.  Our CSA will continue and there is updated info on the link. Unfortunately, we had to make the hard decision to change our weekly price. I could list all the reasons - but mostly we need to earn more than $6 an hour from our farm.

Since moving full circle - to the home, the kitchen, food, cooking - I've done some website shifts and placed a lot of info under the Farm and CSA Info link so as to make room for the new FOOD blog link.  I've already added some recipes - Shaun's French Sorrel recipe and my mushroom soup recipe.
